Pokémon Red Version is a landmark role-playing game (RPG) developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. First released in Japan in 1996 as Pocket Monsters Red and Green, it serves as the foundational entry of the Pokemon series.

Gameplay and Story

  • The Protagonist: Players take on the role of Red, an 11-year-old boy from Pallet Town.
  • The Quest: Your primary goals are to defeat the eight Gym Leaders to challenge the Elite Four and become the Pokémon Champion, while simultaneously completing the Pokédex by collecting all 151 species.
  • The Conflict: Throughout the journey, players must thwart the criminal organization Team Rocket and its leader, Giovanni.
  • Version Differences: To "catch 'em all," players must trade with someone owning Pokémon Blue, as each version contains exclusive Pokemon not found in the other.

Key Features

  • Starter Pokémon: Players choose one of three "first partner" Pokémon from Professor Oak: Bulbasaur (Grass/Poison), Charmander (Fire), or Squirtle (Water).
  • Strategic Combat: Battles are turn-based and revolve around a rock-paper-scissors elemental type system where certain types are super-effective against others.
  • Setting: The game is set in the Kanto region, which includes various cities, routes, and hazardous areas like Mt. Moon and Lavender Town.
