Nintendo 64 non oem reproduction Road Rash 64 video game cartridge.

Road Rash 64 for the Nintendo 64 is a 1999 motorcycle racing game that blends high-speed competition with brutal vehicular combat. Unlike the earlier PlayStation title Road Rash 3D, which focused more on technical racing, the N64 version is a "complete rethinking" that prioritizes the chaotic, slapstick violence the series is known for.

Key Gameplay Mechanics

  • Combat-First Racing: Players compete in illegal street races while using punches, kicks, and an arsenal of weapons—including cattle prods, crowbars, nunchucks, and the infamous "spoke jam" move—to knock opponents off their bikes.
  • Open-Ended World: Instead of isolated tracks, the game features a large, interconnected 200-mile road system that allows for shortcuts and off-road exploration.
  • The Big Game Mode: A career mode where you start as a rookie, earn cash by placing in races, and join rival biker gangs like the Thrashers or Rumblers.
  • Law Enforcement: Police officers actively try to "bust" you. Getting arrested or totaling your bike results in fines; failing to pay these costs ends your game.

Technical Features & Graphics

  • Performance Over Visuals: The game uses low-polygon models and simple textures to maintain a high, steady frame rate even with up to 180 MPH speeds and 10+ bikers on screen.
  • Expansion Pak Support: Users with a Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak can access higher-resolution modes, wide-screen, or letterboxed settings to improve visual clarity.
  • Licensed Soundtrack: Features 90s alternative and surf rock from artists like Sugar Ray, CIV, and The Mermen.

Multiplayer Modes

The game is widely praised for its 4-player split-screen experience. Modes include:

  • Deathmatch: Battle to be the last rider standing.
  • Cop Mode: One player takes the role of a police officer attempting to bust the other racers.
  • Tag & Pedestrian Hunting: Unique arcade-style modes that involve chasing specific players or hitting pedestrians for points.
