Developed by Dimps and Sonic Team, the game is best known for its unique tag-team mechanic, where players pair two characters together to unlock distinct abilities and alternate level routes.
Core Gameplay Features
Tag-Team System: You select a "leader" and a "partner" from five playable characters: Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, and Cream. Each combination (20 in total) changes your moveset; for example, having Tails as a partner increases your jump height.
Story & Zones: After Dr. Eggman shatters the Earth into seven chunks using Chaos Control, Sonic and his friends must travel through seven zones (each with three acts and a boss) to collect the Chaos Emeralds and restore the world.
True Ending: Collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds unlocks a final extra boss fight against Gemerl, a powerful robot built from the data of Emerl (from Sonic Battle).
Multiplayer: Using a GBA Link Cable, up to four players can compete in cooperative or battle modes, including Ring Races and Chao Collecting.
